Tees Valley Mayoral Election 2017

John Tait

John has been selected as the North East Party candidate for the Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayoral Election in May 2017. John has previously stood for election in 2015 for the Stockton North Parliamentary Constituency. John is excited about the campaign ahead and although he does not fully support the type of devolution that this position represents he views this as an opportunity to "give an alternative to people in what is very likely to be a Labour 'shoo-in' if we are not careful".

John wants to use the new, devolved powers to raise money to invest in Teeside and Darlington to create jobs. He also wants to use the powers to improve the transport system in the Tees Valley, specifically the rail network which he brands as a "disgrace".

Hilton Dawson - Newbiggin Central and East

Hilton will be contesting the Newbiggin Central and East ward in the 2017 Northumberland County Council Elections. Hilton is no stranger to politics having served as MP for Lancaster and Wyre between 1997 and 2005. Hilton Founded the North East Party in 2014. Hilton feels that "we are the most neglected region in England. This is the poorest region in the country with the highest level of unemployment and the highest level of social deprivation however it is also a region which is rich in community spirit, entrepreneurialism, research and development and opportunity.”

Hilton will contest the ward under the theme of "Working together for Newbiggin by the Sea". When asked about his plans if elected, he said "'my plans' will be Newbiggin people's plans because as far as one person can I aim to put them firmly in the driving seat."
